It had been months since I had read anything that wasn’t a scientific paper and I found myself mindlessly watching TV for months so I thought I better put an end to this! Now almost every night before I go to sleep I read a couple of pages of my book and avoid watching TV at all in the evenings. I turn into quite the couch potato once the TV is switched on so it’s best if I just don’t go near it at all…plus I have so many books that I’ve bought randomly just sitting there waiting to be read.
I’ve always wanted to do the Rory Gilmore Book Challenge so I thought might as well start now! And then I thought, maybe my friends would want to join in too which lead to the idea of starting a book club. So we’re pretty busy with research at the moment so the book club will start in January sometime. I’ve discovered that Dubray Books give 10% off on book clubs that register with them so I’m super excited to set things up officially! They also have some handy advice on how to set up one and have it run smoothly etc so I’ll be looking into that in more detail in the New Year.
The most recent books I’ve finished were Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn which I thought was a really good read. I really liked how it was written and there were so many unexpected events! I want to go see the movie now and see how it looks on the Big Screen. I wound up spending a weekend I had set aside for organising data and backing up files to reading Gone Girl but it was worth it! And Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, which I had started a couple of times and wound up putting it away for later. However after sticking with it and ploughing through I came to like it more and finally had that “oh right” moment once I had it finished…not my favourite book by a long shot but good nonetheless.
